How much marketing is too much marketing?

Seems like some people are mailing me 2 or 3 times a day lately. I know they’re working hard to sell their products, but I think this is overkill! I’ve gotten so tired of seeing them in my inbox that I don’t bother to read their messages any more.

How do you feel about that? I know my feelings are usually contrary to what the rest of the world thinks – so Maybe I’m just being cranky and old.

Do you think it depends upon your purpose? I do. For instance, if you’re keeping in touch with past clients, every 2 to 4 weeks is probably enough to maintain top of mind awareness and keep them sending you referrals.

But if you’ve got a time-sensitive sale going on, then it would be OK to be in touch every day or two – but only if you have something to say beyond “Buy my stuff.”

I’d like to hear what you think… So if you’ve got a minute, share!
