The Changing Face of Marketing
Have you thought about how things have changed in the last couple of years?
It has always been important to show potential customers and clients the benefit of using your service or buying your product, but now there’s something more.
Maybe it’s because there are so many people out there shouting hype that we all know is untrue (Make $3,000 by this time tomorrow!!!) But whatever the reason, I think it is now more necessary than ever to create an atmosphere of trust.
Your customers want to know that you’re a real person and that they can trust you to do as you say. I don’t think you can do that by shouting “I’m the best!” or by making outlandish promises about your products or services.
The new FTC rulings are going to eliminate some of the hype – and I’m glad. I’m not glad that true testimonials might come under suspicion, but I know that many of those marketers were hiring writers to create untrue testimonials. No one will miss them!
Meanwhile, since the rules go into effect today, for the last 2 weeks my in-box has been overflowing with hype – marketers trying a last ditch effort to reel us in before they had to stop.
That didn’t used to bother me, but since I’ve been having computer troubles and am now using a little low-powered laptop, I’m annoyed! It takes too long to delete them.
Anyway, think about this. Think about adding a good “About me” section to your website if you don’t already have one. Show your prospects that you’re a real person with real experience who can and will help them.
I’m willing to bet you’ll get far better results than those marketers who are still trying to hide their identities!
