What Mood do Your Marketing Materials Create?
The Christmas Season is here, and yet many are afraid of offending those who don’t celebrate Christmas – so they’ve renamed it the “Holiday Season.” The big stores no longer decorate and the clerks are forbidden from saying “Merry Christmas.”
What’s the result? The mood is gone. The magic and the seasonal good cheer are sadly absent. And I don’t think I’m alone when I say it takes all the fun out of shopping. I still love my friends and family and want to find the perfect gifts – but magical atmosphere that made it so much fun is gone.
The more I thought about that tonight, the more I thought about the mood at other times of the year – and the mood created by our various websites and other marketing materials. There’s even a mood created by our speech and choice of clothing.
Some are sober and sedate – and even boring. Some are so busy your eyes can get dizzy just trying to figure out what’s there. Some are quiet and some shout at you.
And each one causes a different kind of reaction based on the mood it creates.
Look around at some different websites and see how they make you feel. Do you get a feeling of trust, confidence, excitement, enthusiasm, or maybe annoyance?
Then look at your own site through the same eyes, and decide – does your website create the mood you want to convey?
