QR Codes – A Waste of Time?

After reading this article from Imedia Connection, I’d have to say yes, they can be a waste of both time and money.partial qr code

That is, unless you take the time and make the effort to use them as an integrated part of your overall marketing campaign.

The article, which tells the stories of 3 major failures, outlines 4 mistakes you can easily avoid. Well, not easily. Avoiding all but the first one will take a little effort.

1. This one is easy. Have your QR code created from a short URL. It seems that codes created from long URL’s are too dense. Many phones have trouble reading them.

2. Let the QR code lead to a video that’s optimized for mobile viewing. Seems obvious, but it’s a mistake people are making.

3. Let the code lead to viewer-focused information.  Make it interesting to them, not to you. This isn’t the place to tell how wonderful you are.

4. Let the video lead to something more. You need a call to action – a place to go to learn more. If you’re selling a product, lead your visitor to a page where they can actually buy that product!
