Yesterday I took some photos around town because someone who visits my Priest River site mentioned that I really should include more pictures. My site wasn’t built for the purpose of promoting the town, but as I snapped photos I started thinking. If I was taking pictures to promote the town, and I had to take just one photo to send to some publication, what would I choose?

What would YOU choose if you were taking a picture to promote your town? Would it be the business district, your neighborhood, a park, a school, or ???

First you’d need to know who would read the publication so you’d know what interested them. Then you’d choose the location that best demonstrated that your town is exactly what they’re looking for. If you were promoting the town to young families you’d choose a different photo than if you were trying to lure some corporate giant into locating a branch in town. You’d choose one photo to appeal to 20-something singles and another to grab folks looking for a peaceful retirement spot.

That’s pretty much the same thing you do when you decide what should be included in a marketing piece about your business or service!

Who is your target audience – and what do they need to know in order to choose you?

That means if you have a variety of products or multiple sides to your service you need a different message for different audiences.
